We will now be able to keep you all updated on the achievements and progress of our many different projects, events, student’s careers and teachers of the school.
At present, one of our senior students, Keira Hurley aged 14, is on a trip to China this week as she is taking part in the 2 week ‘International Youth Dance Festival’ representing Great Britain along with 19 other young British dancers. We wish the team every success and hope she is enjoying this part of her summer vacation dancing abroad.
Guy Salim, 18 year old past student, who recently finished filming a World Cup music video with Chico and other celebrities, has been offered a full grant to attend the Urdang Academy in Central London. We wish Guy every success in becoming the Hip-Hop and commercial dancer he aspires to be.
Recently returned to London from an 8 month engagement with the Scottish Ballet, Jamiel Laurence will be returning to Glasgow from September on a Full Contract where he will be part of the National Company once again. Over the summer, Jamiel will be a regular feature here at Lanterns, as he is looking to raise awareness for the school and involve many important figures in the Dance world in creating new ideas and working closely with the students.
As well as dancing, Jamiel hopes to expand on his own choreographic style, and will hopefully be working with London’s Retorica string duo in creating a new work for a small scale National tour, including new composition from a Composer yet to be confirmed.
It with great pleasure that I can announce yet another 100% pass rate by our students who took part in the last R.A.D. Ballet examination session. We will shortly be offering dates for the upcoming Modern and Tap Exams, and due to the pressures of academic exams at school, we decided to move it forward in the year, and we will shortly be offering further dates for another R.A.D. Examination session.
We would also like to wish Maxine Nhin good luck for her Grade 8 level music exam in the coming weeks. Under the guidance of our new head of music, Miss Laura Elliot, Lanterns will continue to provide a top flight level of music tuition, which will shortly include much more of a variety of musical instruments, such as Flute, Guitar, Cello and Percussion.
Congratulations to Chris Edwards on being accepted to the Royal School of Music in Manchester starting in September 2010. Christopher was one of our music teachers, who is a brilliant musician, and we wish him every success in furthering his professional training. We will watch his future with great interest.
